In response to recent comments from the likes of Cialis Online, Viagra and even Menstruation, I am now going to hold comments for approval. I hope this won't deter the rest of you from contributing comments to the blog!

That is why mine are moderated. I am sure that alot of people who have started this were dealing with the same issue.

NoSpamNX worked wonders for me on Wordpress, I don't know if there is something similar for Typepad. It adds a hidden field to the comments area, which only spambots can see. If that field has anything in it, the blog software knows it's spam!
On a related note, a lot of blog comments with the word "soCIALISm" are marked as span because it contains the word Cialis.

I think everyone understands the reason when comments switch to being moderated.

Oh yeah, I do this too. And I still have a few spammers get through (would you like to buy a special mattress?) and a few bloggers who get categorized as spam (along the lines of what RA Guy said- anything that ressembles a drug name!)
